Wrong photo dimensions for a form upload
Forms reject photos when width, height, or aspect ratio fall outside a stated range. Check the required pixels or print size, then resize or crop to match before compressing.
Two different “size” words
| Message | Usually means |
|---|---|
| File too large / exceeds 100 KB | Byte size |
| Image too small / invalid dimensions | Pixel width × height or aspect ratio |
Mixing them up is the most common DIY mistake.
How to read a dimension rule
Examples you will see on forms:
600 × 600 pixels minimumBetween 100 KB and 300 KB, 35 × 45 mmSquare photo requiredHead must occupy 70–80% of the frame
Translate that into three checks:
- Aspect ratio (square vs 35×45 portrait)
- Pixel count (minimum / maximum)
- Composition (head size, margins) for ID-style photos
Practical fix path
- Note the exact numbers from the form (screenshot them).
- Crop to the correct ratio without squeezing faces.
- Resize to the required pixel box.
- Only then compress to the KB limit.
Quick measurement tip
On Windows or macOS, open file properties / Get Info to see pixel dimensions. If your editor shows only inches, switch the ruler to pixels.
This site explains the rules; it does not crop uploads. For a form-oriented local tool path, use the Fernpix link below.
FAQ
Are inches and pixels the same requirement?
No. Inches describe print size at a DPI. Portals that ask for 2×2 inches usually also imply a pixel size or DPI. Prefer an explicit pixel size when given.
Why is my photo rejected as “too small” when the file is several megabytes?
Megabytes measure file weight. “Too small” usually means too few pixels (for example under 600×600), not a small file size.
Should I stretch the image to hit exact pixels?
Avoid non-uniform stretching. Crop to the right aspect ratio, then resize.
